The World of Dogs arena is now in its fifth year at Wiltshire Game and Country Fair, held together by the inimitable Kev Bradley. This year we are pleased to feature:
Paws for Thought Dog Display Team
Made up mainly of rescue dogs, this display will amaze you with the trust built up between handler and dog. With agility, obedience and some amazing fiery stunts, this promises to be an action packed show.
Paul Makepeace Gun Dogs
Watch and learn from gun dog trainer and handler Paul Makepeace as he demonstrates how a young gun dog can be trained up from puppyhood to a well trained gun dog you can confidently take on a shoot. Then learn what might happen on a shoot day, and how the different breeds are used to their best advantage.
Terrier racing will also be taking place twice daily in the world of dogs area, run by our own Living Heritage team. This will be fast and furious and open to all terrier breeds.
Parade of Hounds
A couple of local packs will be with us in the World of Dogs arena, demonstrating how they work together in this traditional sport. These are working hunts, and they go out regularly following the trail of a ‘runner’ (a human being who sets out about forty minutes ahead). The hounds will follow the runner’s scent over many miles until eventually he is caught, and probably licked all over!
Come and hear more. You may even get the opportunity to run…
Chase the Bunny
Always hugely popular in the World of Dogs Arena – for all breeds (we race similar breeds together). If your dog likes to chase, he will love chasing the lure and seeing if he can beat the other dogs to the finishing line. Great fun to both watch and take part in with your dog.
Gun Dogs and Falconry
A unique and fascinating demonstration of how a bird of prey can be trained to work alongside its natural predator, the dog, in order to please their expert handlers Paul Makepeace (dogs) and Ben Long (birds).
A parade of breeds you may be slightly less familiar with. Find out the characteristics of each and what they were originally used for. Meet the handlers and ask your questions. Informative and often very licky!
Meet all the dogs and handlers taking part in the World of Dogs Arena in our World of Dogs Village afterwards.
